If you are going to quit smoking here is the way to do it. Understand you are going to screw up but keep going.st; do not tell anyone you are quitting, do not write anything down ( this means no journal musings ), it is your business and your reasons are your own.
First step; for 2 weeks every time you light up make a "mental note" of where you are, what time of day is it and what you are doing.
Second step; for 2 more weeks wait 10 minutes before you light up. You already know when you are going to light up. You can still have your cigarettes just wait 10 minutes. If you light up put it out and light up later.
Third step; wait 20 minutes before you light up. You can still have your cigarettes. Also now start watching others who smoke; when someone lights up do others follow, did that person light up right after finishing their meal?
Fourth step; wait 30 minutes.
Fifth step; Wait to light up from, say the time you get in the car until you get to work before you light up, or from the time you wake up until after your coffee or breakfast; or you figure out your light up time but make it a good period of time.
Sixth step; if you got this far you have made it. Put your pack of cigarettes away, do not throw them out, just put them away and get on with your life as usual; wake up, get out of bed, S/S/S, eat, work, just go about your life without smoking.
What you have done is to remove the trigger that gets you smoking. Now you are a NON-SMOKER, you didn't quit you are a NON-Smoker!!!!!
It works, it really does. You will not get fat. You will not spend your money on chewing gum or sunflower seeds or other habit.
Now wait for it. Someone will stop offering you a smoke, someone will say to you "didn't you used to smoke? You will notice how people who smoke smell, how their cars and homes smell. And best of all you will be saving money.
