From what Ive read, the church planted Christian holidays on pagan holidays because you know you just cant keep people from partying. So better to have fun on a Christian holiday than a pagan one. I am a Christian believer but It seems that plan worked cause most everyone in the Western world celebrates Christian holidays whether they are Christian believers or not.
Easter is a pagan holiday, however, Passover is the time Jesus resurrected. Now correct me if I am wrong.....
Acts 12 verse 4 12:4 is the only place in the King James version of the Bible that the word Easter appears. It is an error which has been corrected by modern translators as Passover. The term Easter (from the Saxon word Eostre) is named from the pagan Anglo-Saxon goddess of dawn. Springtime is an awakening like dawn, and hence the connection. Springtime is associated with fertility and thus such manifestations as eggs and bunnies form part of the tradition. It was at the time of Passover that sacrifices were made to Eostre. True Christians should shun participation in any pagan activity, no matter how innocent it seems.
All this has me completely baffled. I was brought up Catholic & went to Catholic school until the 8th grade. I was the one who would always ask questions of the nuns. Their answer to everything was, "Do not ask. It's a divine mystery." Well, that never stopped me. The only time a priest "truthfully" answered me was when I asked, " God created Adam & Eve & they had Cain & Able. Cain slew Able & was banished into Nod, where he met his wife Enoch." So, I asked, "How did Nod come about & who was Enoch?" He answered, " You have to understand that these were all fables. It's like telling someone something & by the time it gets to the tenth person, it's a completely different story." Finally! Someone said the truth! But, I digress. My question(s)....Didn't Jesus die on the cross on a certain Friday & then 3 days later, he rose from the dead, which Catholics tell us it's Easter? What does the moon have to do with anything? Why would it be different for different religions? Now the BIG question is, if Jesus was considered to be "King of the Jews", why are there Catholics? Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I haven't got a straight answer yet.
Ok, I guess that priest decided to give you an answer to get you out of the way and then you accepted it, but that's something for you to study and find out how comes there were more humans when Cain went his way.
Your big question "if Jesus was considered to be King of the Jews, why are there Catholics?"
Well, Jews didn't accept Jesus as their King, Jesus Kingdom is not earthly and catholics are religious followers while Jesus didn't create a religion.
What does the moon have to do with it?
Imagine you're living in a time where there is no standardized calendar, and much of the populace is illiterate anyway. How would you know when was a good time to plant your seeds and breed your livestock? If they just went by when it started to feel warm enough, they risked losing crops because they planted too early and got hit by frost. They didn't have "dates" to know when their average last frost date was, but what they did have was a way to track the sun and moon.
Observation over many, many generations taught them that they had to wait until some time after the equinox, but that planting too early after the equinox would kill their tender seedlings. So how to count how much time they had to let pass after the equinox as an illiterate people with no calendar? By the moon. They basically said, let's wait until after the first full moon after the equinox to plant even our earliest crops. Let's have a big feast to let everybody that can't tell time like this know that it's okay to start planting now, and just to be extra safe, let's have a day of worship where we'll ask the goddess to bless our seeds and our animals and pray for fertility.
When the Catholic church decided to adopt the feast day, they moved the day of Easter to the Sunday after the lunar feast day.
Clara~ Since you have so many questions that need study of the scriptures you should start doing just that. It’s unfortunate you accepted the priests false answer as truth. Start by reading about who Enoch is. Then read the witness accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There you will find your answer to your BIG question. Never stop studying God’s Word. God bless you on your journey. May you find His truth.
How bout you just tell us why its false instead of eluding to the scriptures, of which there are hundreds, you clearly know nothing about? God. Protestants are so funny.
The celebration of Easter is rooted in Pagan worship. It has nothing to do with Christianity. The importance and presence of Jesus is his teachings and his sacrificial death for all of humankind. He is the True God’s Son, the Messiah (the Chosen One), The True God’s spokesperson. All people that listen to him and are obedient to “All” his teachings, (found in the Bible), are the only ones who are going to be granted “Everlasting Life”. The Apostle, Luke, was inspired to write in : 1 Cort. 6: 9-11. This was clarified in addition to the 10 Commandments,
for all true Christians. Please consider these things.
I would change the picture. Now a days people will probably not look at the article and think the date is April 9. Thanks for the article!!!
