How do insects grow?

Insects have their skeletons on the outside and soft body parts on the inside. The only way they can grow is to break out of their skins and get bigger before any new skin hardens. Shedding the old skin is called molting, which is why you may find those disgusting used skeletons on your windowsills, for example.
