When was the first official Christmas card sent from the White House?
Answer
President Dwight D. Eisenhower is given credit for sending the first “official” card, although other presidents before him had sent cards. Eisenhower was an amateur artist who painted to relax. He and the first lady, Mamie, sent out 38 different holiday cards in their 8 years in the White House. An art print also became the standard Christmas gift for the president’s staff, a practice continued to this day.
