Peppers will die if exposed to temperatures 40F or lower. I clip my plants down to about 18 inches and trim the side branches. I use boot trays (often available at DollarTree, Dollar General, or Big Lots) under the large pots to protect my floors from any dirt/water. I can fit 2 or 3 pots per boot tray. I have good light on the east and south and they seem to do well all winter long. You might need some grow lights where you live. Add some compost or fertilizer about mid-February and by mid-April they might be in bloom and almost ready to be placed outside. Put them out after the temperatures are no lower than between 45-50F at night. I have successfully over-wintered poblanos, jalapeños, shishitos, habaneros, NuMex suave orange, and a Marconi-type.
