Thanks for your question. Sounds like you are having more success growing mold than growing tomatoes, which is obviously not ideal. Mold tends to form when conditions are damp and stagnant, so the solution is going to involve some combination of watering less, lowering the humidity, and improving air circulation. It sounds like the mold impacted one container more than the other. Was there anything notably different about their placement? 

Start by disposing of any soil that has already developed mold and starting fresh. With white mold, overwatering is less likely than humidity to be the issue. Consider placing a fan nearby to keep air moving and dry out surface soil. Make sure the top couple inches of soil are allowed to dry out between waterings. 

This will likely be enough to set your tomatoes on the right track. If not, try contacting your local extension service to see what they recommend.
