When I have occasional sinus problems I take two wide-mouthed coffee mugs of the same size and half-fill one with fine, iodized table salt. Then, over the sink to avoid spilling salt onto the floor, I keep my nos close to the empty one and inhale deeply as I pour the salt from the mug into the empty mug from a height of about eight inches. Falling into the empty mug, the salt releases a fine salt dust that goes deep into my sinuses and into my upper respiratory system, throat included. This dries up and disinfects my sinuses and eliminates post-nasal drip. I repeat this procedure about five or six times at each session and two or three times a day or as needed. If my nose is plugged up by congestion I use a nose spray before beginning the procedure to allow me to inhale deeply the salt dust. It is necessary to replace the salt in the mug after a few uses, as the amount of salt dust released by the fall tends to diminish.
