Let’s talk about the meaning of numbers! Numerology is the study of numbers and their relationship with events. Learn about this ancient practice and find your own life path number.

What is Numerology?

Numerology is the belief that there is a divine or unexplained relationship between numbers and coinciding events. Understanding these numbers and patterns reveals concealed meanings about the world as well as self-discovery.

Why are Their Meanings in Numbers?

Everything on this Earth is vibrational and can be reduced to numbers. The moment we breathe in our first breath on this planet, we are imprinted with the energies inherent in that second.

This is a basic tenet of numerology. The numbers themselves represent different vibrations or properties. Tuning into our personal numbers allows us to find the best ways to proceed with our lives.

Where Did This Practice Come From?

Numerology is an ancient study that spans thousands of years—the Babylonians, Egyptians, and Chinese all practiced numerology. Many believed numbers were spiritually linked. There is even a biblical numerology in that numbers in the Bible convey a meaning outside of the numerical value.

It is said that Pythagoras was the father of numerology. He was born around 582 B.C. on the Greek Island of Samos. He believed that these numbers were indigenous to the totality of the Universe because every number greater than nine ultimately reduces down to one of the 1 through 9 scales.

The Pythagoreans saw symbolism in numbers. For example, the number 1 symbolizes unity and the origin of all things since all other numbers can be created from 1. For example, 7 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1.

In modern times, many of us find meaning in numbers and patterns. For example, see the meaning of 12/31/23.

How to Find Your Life Path Number

We find our basic path by adding up all the numbers of our birth dates and reducing them until we have a number between 1 and 9.

  • For example, let’s assume that I was born on the 22nd day of September in 1997.
  • The numbers are 22 (the day), 9 (the month), and 1997 (the year).
  • Add 2+2+9+1+9+9+7, which equals 39.
  • Break 39 down to 3+9=12, and then 12 to 1+2=3.
  • My Path would be a 3.

Granted, this planet is one of free will, and we can choose to do whatever we think we would like within the law.

However, going with the flow often works better than picking a challenging direction. The following attributes of each number can help you discover your easiest route to success.
